The Brand We Wear
The Power of a Brand
In the late '80s, a young boy stood in line outside a shoe store with his dad. He wasn’t there for groceries or school supplies. He was there for a pair of Air Jordans.
Not because he needed new shoes.
Not even because they were the best.
He wanted what they meant.
They made him feel like he mattered. Like he was somebody.
Like maybe he could be great, just by what was on his feet.
That’s the power of a brand.
It’s more than a name. It’s a message. A story. A promise.
And whether we realize it or not, we’re all wearing a brand—one that goes far deeper than clothes or shoes.
The Invisible Brand We Carry
You may not see it in the mirror… but every one of us carries a brand on our heart.
Not a logo, not a name tag, but something far more powerful.
It speaks to who we believe we are.
What we’re worth.
Where we belong.
And whose we are.
The world tells us to build a brand for ourselves—
But Jesus came to give us one that’s already been paid for.
Still, many of us walk around wearing the wrong brand. Brands that scar. Brands that suffocate. Brands that lie.
Let’s look at some of them.
Deep Brands We Wear on Our Hearts
1. The Brand of Shame
“I’ll never be enough.”
You carry guilt like a permanent weight. You believe you’re too broken for God to really want you.
Psalm 34:5 (ESV):
“Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.”
2. The Brand of Performance
“I am what I do.”
You run hard, hustle harder, and collapse when you fail.
Ephesians 2:8–9 (ESV):
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
3. The Brand of Silence
“My voice doesn’t matter.”
You’ve learned to keep quiet. You don’t believe your presence carries weight.
Psalm 18:3 (ESV):
“I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.”
4. The Brand of Approval
“I just want to be liked.”
You change who you are based on who you’re with.
Galatians 1:10 (ESV):
“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
5. The Brand of Addiction
“This is who I am now.”
Your struggle has become your identity.
John 8:36 (ESV):
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
6. The Brand of Rejection
“I’m not wanted.”
You carry the pain of being overlooked, abandoned, or betrayed.
Psalm 27:10 (ESV):
“For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in.”
7. The Brand of Control
“If I don’t hold it all together, it will fall apart.”
You carry the weight of everything. You don’t trust God to handle it.
Psalm 46:10 (ESV):
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
8. The Brand of Bitterness
“I’ve been wronged—and I won’t forget it.”
You’re holding on to hurt more tightly than healing.
Ephesians 4:31–32 (ESV):
“Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you… forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
9. The Brand of Identity Confusion
“I don’t know who I am.”
You feel lost—shifting identities to fit in or survive.
1 John 3:1 (ESV):
“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.”
10. The Brand of Self
“It’s about me.”
You may believe in Jesus, but you still live for your own comfort.
Luke 9:23 (ESV):
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
The Brand of the World
The world is more than happy to sell you a brand.
And most of the time, it will feel good.
It will feel right.
It will even seem empowering.
But the world’s brand is hollow.
“Do not love the world or anything in the world… The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” — 1 John 2:15,17
The world says:
“Follow your heart” (even if it leads to destruction).
“Live your truth” (even if it defies God’s truth).
“Do what feels good” (even if it enslaves you).
But in the end, that brand cannot carry the weight of your soul.
It will crack.
It will burn out.
And it will leave you wondering, Who am I really?
The Brand of Christ
Jesus offers a different brand.
Not a worldly badge of honor, but a holy seal of love.
Not a name you earn, but one that’s given.
“You also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth… When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.” — Ephesians 1:13
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” — Galatians 2:20
To wear the brand of Christ is to:
Lay down your old labels.
Tear off the names the world gave you.
Let God re-name you: Son. Daughter. Beloved. Free.
It’s a brand of surrender.
A brand of grace.
A brand of truth.
And a brand that never fades.
Two Brands. One Choice.
You can’t wear both.
Jesus said,
“No one can serve two masters.” — Matthew 6:24
You are either marked by Christ
—or you are still wearing the brands of the world.
You are either led by His voice
—or still performing for a world that will never love you like He does.
Take the Time to Reflect
Let’s slow down and ask:
Which of these heart-brands am I still wearing?
Where have I allowed the world to define me?
What would it look like to let Jesus strip me of every false identity—and brand my heart with His love?
A Prayer of Rebranding
Jesus, I’ve worn labels You never gave me. I’ve carried shame, chased approval, and let sin define me.
But I don’t want to wear the world anymore.
I want to wear You.
Strip me of every false brand.
Rebrand my heart with Your truth, Your love, and Your name.
Let everything in me reflect who You are.
In Your name, amen.
Final Word
The brand you wear will shape the way you live, love, and lead.
The world’s brand will fade.
But the mark of Christ will outlast time.
So let me ask you one last question:
When people encounter your life… whose brand do they see?
